About this camp

The ieSoSC (Innovators & Entrepreneurs of Smart Cities) program at NYU Tandon School of Engineering is a comprehensive 5-week summer program designed for high school students interested in urban technology, sustainability, and data science. Students engage in hands-on technology projects, learning technical skills in coding, microcontrollers, circuit deployment, and sensor integration to ideate and prototype smart city solutions. The curriculum also includes entrepreneurship training, covering economics, project management, company branding, and navigating patents and copyrights. Participants develop communication skills through theater-based workshops to perfect their business pitches. The program culminates in a public presentation where student teams showcase their prototypes and ideas to engineers, urban planners, STEM experts, and the general public, applying an Internet of Things (IoT) approach to smart city design challenges. Students also have the opportunity to participate in NYU's College 101 workshop series to help navigate the college admissions process and go on field trips to NYC destinations.
