About this camp

The NYU Precollege Program offers high school students the opportunity to earn college credits and experience university life by taking undergraduate STEM courses, including data science, taught by NYU faculty. The data science course introduces modern data analysis techniques, focusing on interpreting and visualizing data, building mathematical models, and assessing their validity for predictions. Students will gain basic programming skills relevant for data analysis and modeling, specifically using Python and Jupyter notebooks to work with data tables and create visualizations. The curriculum emphasizes a hands-on, data-centric approach, allowing students to analyze real-world data and create models. By the end of the course, students will understand how to interpret data and data visualizations, use Python and Jupyter notebooks for data manipulation, and apply data science to future research opportunities. The program aims to enhance STEM skillsets and marketability, providing a strong foundation in data science concepts and their practical applications.

What a typical day looks like

Students will have two weekly obligations: a Tuesday evening lecture (7pm – 8:30pm ET) and a weekly online lab section (recitation) where they practice material from the lecture, with a choice between a weekday evening or a weekend morning session.

Best suited for

This program is ideal for current high school juniors and seniors with a strong STEM background who are looking to expand their interests beyond the high school curriculum and gain practical data science skills.
