About this camp

The CCNY College Now STEM Research Academy is a two-semester program designed to cultivate strong scientific thinking skills in NYC public high school students. The program begins with a spring pre-college science course, such as the 'DNA Detectives' course, where students engage in hands-on, inquiry-based activities. This foundational course focuses on developing essential skills like formulating research questions, designing experiments, conducting literature searches, and reading scientific literature. Upon successful completion of the spring course, a select group of students are invited to participate in a summer research internship. During this intensive five-week internship, students are partnered with a City University of New York (CUNY) or City College of New York (CCNY) faculty member to pursue a research topic of interest in a lab setting. The program culminates in a research project and presentation, often at prestigious venues like the American Museum of Natural History, allowing students to communicate their findings and gain valuable experience in scientific discourse.

What a typical day looks like

During the summer internship, students are required to work in a research lab four to five days a week, potentially including Saturdays, and participate in weekly seminars and workshops.
